Laika is the name of the first dog in space. This Laika, is a cat, and she has remained on Earth throughout her life (as far as I know). Laika is incredibly affectionate and social cat. Every person she meets she has no fear and seeks out their affection. If you stop, she will lightly paw at you for more. Literally right out of the bag Laika was exploring the home without pause or fear. She is roughly 11 years old, but plenty young in spirit. She enjoys playing with toys. The stick with a furry tuft at the bottom is her favourite. When I wake up in the morning or come home she has often pulled it out from wherever it was stashed and left it outside my bedroom door or elsewhere in the house. It's a lovely gift. Very thoughtful of her! Laika has lived with big and small dogs and does not have any issues. She is interested in dogs, and if the dog is up for it, she will cuddle with it. Laika was in foster before I adopted her where she was with other cats and I can confirm she does well with them. I have a 9 year-old nephew who she took to immediately and loves getting his affection, so I believe she would be suitable for kids. Laika is an inside cat, but when the days are lovely in Portland I open the doors and she will find a place on the deck, especially in the sun, and spend an afternoon. She does not stray, and like a good kitty, knows the sound of her treats anyway. Laika uses her litter box perfectly. Laika is also in wonderful health. You would really never guess she is 11 (allegedly). I adopted Laika not too long ago and she actually rode from Texas to Portland and did great. Unfortunately, while Laika may be interested and try to cuddle with my dog, my dog is terrified of her. Keep in mind, she is a cat, so she will hiss and swat, but she is a cat. She is in no way mean. Unless you count her giving you love bites as mean. Like on the tip of your nose! I have worked with a trainer and done my absolute best to acclimate my dog (I've had for 10 years), but we just aren't able to reach a point where he is not fearful and I think it hinders his quality of life. Laika is looking for a home. A good home. With people. With treats. With toys. With some sunshine. More than anything, with people. I'm not joking when I say she is the most affectionate cat I've met. She naps on top of me if I will let her, and she sleeps right next to me under the covers at night. Any stranger walking in the door will receive her love. And she is absolutely beautiful to match her personality. It breaks my heart to have to re-home her, but I know it is the right thing to do. Indoor only please. Rehoming fee for this awesome cat is $50 and snuggles are free.
