Our family has made the extremely hard decision that it is best at this time to open up to the universe a possibility that there might be a more fulfilling life out there for our two beloved bonded pair of senior (about 13 years old) adult female cats - Luna and Lili (pronounced Lily). Of course we feel a pet is a lifetime commitment but 13 years ago when we adopted the kitties, we couldn’t have predicted our circumstance would change as our aging grandparents need more of our time and my son prepares for college. Our motivation in rehoming is because we love them and want the absolute best for them.
About the girls: Luna is the sweetest, tiny girl in the entire world. She has literally never raised her tiny voice, gotten upset with anyone for any reason and LOVES all other people and animals. She even loves other kitties and has never met a dog (or a bunny) she didn't want to smother with love. She loves to be held and snuggle as much as possible!
Challenges with Luna: She will sometimes try to knock over cups of water on the table if her water bowl isn't super fresh. We just keep cups picked up to avoid this. If you have other pets such as a dog, she will try to eat their food and can become sick. Please ensure she only eats kitty food and kitty treats! She has had some concerns about her heart murmur and thyroid levels in the past (she is currently a bit underweight) - but at present is not receiving treatment for either condition. Just monitoring! She may need a thyroid recheck and a dental cleaning in the near future.
Lili (pronounced Lily) is much bigger and has always been sadly misunderstood! She looks, sounds and acts aggressive but she is just fearful! She was found as a stray and improperly weaned before she came to live with us (someone on Craigslist adopted her to us as a kitten). She even still loves to nurse and make biscuits on soft fuzzy blankets. Lili will also sometimes chew plastic bags, rubber bands, decorative ribbon or hair ties so we keep those alway from her too. She has had a recent-ish dental cleaning.
Challenges with Lili: Veterinary care was historically a bit hard, but in recent years we have found great success with her prescription sedative medication called Gabapentin. In fact, her and Luna both receive this when they go in for check-ups (50mg). We can put you in touch with their current vet to discuss proper administration and the correct prescription for this. Lili can also be really sneaky with trying to escape the house but is usually easy to lure back with treats or wet food. She can even pry open partially closed windows or sliding doors so we just keep an eye on her. Her entire life has been spent with children (small children), dogs, and Luna. While she isn't always chipper about company unless its on her terms, she has never hurt anyone or been unable to tolerate childen or dogs - again, as long as she has somewhere only she can go (to get away from kids/dogs/strangers) - tall cat tree, under a bed or in a cardboard box, etc. While she can and has tolerated kids and dogs her whole life, I think she would most thrive in a home with her and Luna as the only pets or with older kids/adults. She has had a small bit of cancer removed from her front leg and had treatment for thyroid issues in the past - at present both totally in remission!!
Sometimes Lili will get extra vocal with strangers or the cat sitter so we have found either leaving her in her harness (she tolerates this very well and it calms her a lot) and/or handing a nerf gun to the guest/cat sitter/child will keep her at a distance. NEVER load the nerf gun, dry fire it or ever shoot it anywhere near her, but just the sound she associates with picking up a nerf gun and the sight of one makes her want to stay way and hide peacefully. I think it will take a few weeks to a month before Lili will be able to come out of her shell and start to integrate into your home.
The kitties are opposite as their markings but make such a special team and help each other in their own special ways. It might seem like they get in scuffles and bicker sometimes, but that's normal for theml!! Luna loves to lay by Lili and get her face groomed but always starts a wrestling match before Lili feels her face is clean enough! Most of the rest of the time, they enjoy each other's company from separate beds, rarely sleeping together but as soon as they are separated both will get a bit stressed and look for each other. We give them treats and put them in the office at night so they can be crazy and play without waking up family members (the office is set up as a cat room). I have kept their front claws trimmed bi-weekly all their lives so while they might grumble, they are used to me using a fingernail clipper to snip off the sharp tips.
Now as for the hart part - why we need to look into rehoming our sweet girls. Life circumstances for us have changed requiring that we be more portable both due to my son entering college out of state and a need to travel a few weeks every 2-3 months to spend time with my grandmother who is also out of state. It is difficult for me to travel since the kitties are too set in their ways for boarding - I always hire someone to come here to care for them when I travel, but I want for them to have more love and a more fulfilling life than i am able to give them at present. Being in the twice daily care of a hired person regularly while I travel could never supplement the love a full-time family could give them!!
The cats need someone who understands cats and can give Lili the privacy and space she needs while still having an open heart to love on her when she is in the mood. She really is a very sweet and loving girl, she is just fearful and needs quiet and space, and a lot of patience and  understanding. She loves to sit by open windows and even loves to walk outside on a leash with her harness!!
The cats will be rehomed with everything they need, including new literboxes (I have four, you can have all or a few), litter, extra food/treats, harness and leash, two kennels, two climbing cat trees, access to their previous vet records and my willingness to help! I would love to be part of their future with photos if at all possible too, they are so very special to us. This is very difficult and I humbly thank you for considering our girls and the situation. We want the absolute best for them and trust the universe will help us a find home they can again thrive in! We are asking a $50 rehoming fee per kitty ($100 for both kitties)
