Domestic Short Hair / Bombay / Mixed (short coat) : : Female (spayed) : : Senior : : Medium
I have had Echo for 9 years this summer and she has always been wonderful in every way except one: she doesn't get along with other animals and has never really gotten along with men (that have tried hard to befriend her). She's a girl's girl for sure. The problem is, her current mom trapped and rescued a feral kitten and kept it last year. Echo disapproves and makes this new addition to the family very scared and unhappy. Then her mom began fostering other cats and kittens for an animal shelter. She currently has 7 cats and kittens in the house and Echo's life is now confined to a bedroom where she can cause no harm or trouble; but her mom wants more of a life for her than that. Her behavior has shown her intolerant of all of the other cats in the house and her mom thinks it best she find a new home where she can live a fuller life. Echo is a very smart cat who knows her name and lots of other commands. She's very lovable and wonderful, but her mom's life has changed and she now has need to re-home her. Echo needs a house with NO other animals. Echo needs a house with a female owner (she tolerates men but it takes years to get to liking them) to love and cuddle her. Echo needs a house with a mom who lets her sleep in bed next to her. She knows the command "It's nite nite time" for going to bed time. She usually waits about 5 minutes after mom settles down to climb in and lay next to her when she stops moving around. Echo requires prescription cat food for IBD (irritable bowel disease -- a condition she has had and lived fine with her whole life while on prescription food). Echo is not generally not permitted to eat wet food, cat treats, or human scraps. She does best when her diet is solely her prescription food. Echo had her front claws declawed, is fixed, chipped, and current on her vaccinations. She had her last rabies shot in 2020 and is not due for 2 more years. You would need to update the contact information in her chip upon adoption, just in case. Echo drinks water from the bathroom sink or the cat fountain in her room. She does not like water from the bowl. She needs the fountain or sink. She knows the command "do you want a drink"? for hopping up on the bathroom counter to get water. Echo knows the command "down" for getting off of surfaces when you don't want her up there (like if you're trying to do something on the counter and she hops up there). Echo knows the command "in or out" when you want to close a door and she's right in the doorway; she has to make up her mind if she's going in or out quickly and she knows it when you say this. Echo will do best as indoor/outdoor in a home with access to a wood-fenced backyard through a cat door. She likes to go outside sometimes when the weather is nice, but usually stays indoors when it's rainy, too hot, or too cold. Since she is declawed, she cannot climb a normal 6' fence to get out. Echo must take her flea medication by pill form which is a special order from the veterinarian. She can reach the back of her neck and has made herself very sick after licking the liquid stuff off before. Her mom tried putting her in the cone for a day after application and she got out of it. So now, it's a pill instead. She does not get flea medication every year, just during the summers when fleas are a problem. Sometimes we go years without. Echo knows the command "come here" but does not always listen to it (typical cat moods). Echo makes adorable cooing noises in addition to her meows. It is kind of like listening to a trilling musical instrument when she walks around happy. Echo has thin fur so, although she sheds a small amount naturally during the warm seasons, she doesn't really need regular brushing often. Her current mom brushes her mostly by hand through petting. Echo grew up being cradled up-side down, sideways, and right side up so she takes her cuddles any which way and likes it. She's never been much of a lap cat, but that's because her current mom never sits still enough for her. She might be a lap cat with the right mom. If you like to naps? She's going to nap too! Right next to you.
