  Ginger is about 15 years old, sweet and gentle. She’s been living outdoors most of her life, since her owner found that she was highly allergic. The neighbors moved 10 days ago and I offered to feed Ginger and help find a home for her. She’s been inside my home for several days, and seems to be tolerating it well. She seems happy to sit in my lap and be petted—she purrs. She eats well and uses the litter box. I, too, am allergic, so she is relegated to our daylight basement where she has a glass wall giving her oversight of our garden and its birds. There are other cats in the neighborhood, two of whom used to hang out with Ginger on her owners’ back deck. She has not, to my knowledge, been around children in recent years, although there were two neighbor girls 12 years ago who interacted with Ginger.
