We are moving to an apartment in New York City and can not take our sweet cat. He is 8 years old and we rescued him from a shelter in Connecticut where we lived before our move to Portland in 2015. He is an indoor/outdoor cat yet mostly stays inside, sleeps on our bed at night and loves to curl up in our laps when we watch TV or read. He doesn't like dogs and or other cats and will be a little leery of new people until he realizes they will not harm him. He has been around young teenagers and older kids, not toddlers, but I think he'd be fine with young children as long as they are gentle with him.
Jiffy is 100% healthy, up-to-date on shots, chipped and has had his teeth cleaned (Oct 2015). He eats Science Diet Oral Care kibble and loves the gravy from his Fancy Feast canned food, generally leaving the meat behind. He is an easy cat, affectionate, calm and prefers to do his business outside yet will use the litter box if he can't go out. He usually goes out in the morning for 30 min and walks the perimeter of our small property and in the afternoon he'll go out for 1-2 hours. In the summer he likes to stay outside longer.
I think it will take him about a week to warm up to a new family so he may hide or watch you from afar but once he knows he has a loving home he will be your sweetie. It is with a very heavy heart that I write this, we will miss him terribly yet know he will be happier with a new owner in Portland that has outdoor space versus a small Manhattan apartment.
